Ofgem has announced a shortlist of bidders to develop transmission links for two offshore wind farms in the UK.

The regulator selected Diamond Transmission Partners, Mari Energy Transmission and Transmission Capital Partners for both the Galloper and Walney Extension projects, based off the coasts of Suffolk and Cumbria respectively.

The two links are the final projects of five to be tendered under the fifth round of the Offshore Transmission Owner (OFTO) scheme, which will connect 2.3GW of generation capacity in total.

Under the regime, bidders compete for the rights to own the windfarm transmission infrastructure, which lowers the cost to consumers of connecting offshore wind farms to the mainland.

The bidder shortlist for the first three links in the fifth round, which were the Dudgeon, Race Bank and Rampion sites, was announced in February.

The shortlisted bidders will now go proceed to the Invitation to Tender stage, after which Ofgem will appoint the preferred developer for each link.

The firm designated the OFTO for each facility will receive fixed revenues for the next 20 years.

Scotland is to spend another £1.5 million on maximising the production and reducing the costs of offshore wind.
