The UK’s Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) is investigating the merger of two recycling companies.

The announcement comes following the buyout of Metal & Waste Recycling by European Metal Recycling.

The competition watchdog said it has reasonable grounds for suspecting that European Metal Recycling and owner of the latter firm, Cufe Investments, “have ceased to be distinct”.

It stated: “The CMA is considering… whether it is or may be the cast that a relevant merger situation has been created and whether the creation of that situation has resulted or may be expected to result in a substantial lessening of competition in any market or markets in the UK.”

It added no action has been taken yet.
