The UAE has signed two international co-operation agreements on nuclear energy with the UK and Canada.

They will exchange information on matters related to the safe and peaceful use of nuclear power as well as regulations, construction, operation and decommissioning of power plants.

The agreements were signed with the UK’s Office for Nuclear Regulation and the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC).

Christer Viktorsson, Director-General of the UAE Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation (FANR) said: “Co-operating with leading international organisations and countries in nuclear regulation is a necessity nowadays.

“Being the UAE’s nuclear regulator, FANR is gearing up its efforts to ensure a peaceful nuclear programme as well as regulate nuclear-related activities that serve the nation’s goals.”
