A group of famous actors and performers have said the curtain is coming down on pensions investing in fossil fuels.

The celebrities have voiced support for the #PensionPower campaign, which was set up by members of the British actors’ union Equity and supported by responsible investment charity ShareAction.

Award-winning actor Mark Rylance and actresses Zoë Wanamaker and Maxine Peake are among those asking their pension provider Aviva to move their money away from emission-intensive fuels such as coal and create a low carbon fund for their combined assets worth £110 million.

The campaign is not yet officially endorsed by Equity until it is voted in by the Council but the union has reportedly been supportive of the activism taking place.

Mark Rylance said: “In the end individuals will make the difference.

“We must individually stop supporting those who, by their actions, deny that humans and many other living beings are facing a mortal crisis of global warming.”
