A UK engineering consultant has been appointed to develop a proposed interconnector between Zambia and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

A team of engineers at WSP will undertake a three-stage feasibility study to develop options and recommend a preferred solution for the 330kW power link between Zambia and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

Work includes initial assessment of the routes and substations, data gathering, financial and economic analysis, detailed route surveys and design and specifications.

The project, which will improve access to reliable energy in Central Africa, has received financial backing from the African Development bank, the World Bank and the UN.
