The increase in household energy bills seems to have prompted a surge in the demand for solar panel installations.
Trade association Solar Energy UK has said at present, more than 3,000 solar installations take place every week across the UK.
This compares to just 1,000 a week in July 2020.
Last month, a new report suggested that the UK solar capacity exceeded 15GW, approaching four times the maximum output of the UK’s largest power station, Drax.
Last week, the energy regulator announced that a typical household energy bill will hit £3,549 from 1st October, with some analysts suggesting that the cap could be double that from April.
Chris Hewett, Chief Executive of Solar Energy UK, said: “More solar panels are being put on British roofs than ever before.
“Solar power is a critical solution to the most serious challenges faced by the UK today: cost of living, energy security and climate change. So, Liz Truss and Rishi Sunak’s attacks on solar farms – which are vital to meet the government’s solar targets – make no sense.”
