Official data reveals millions of unspent Boiler Upgrade Scheme funding

Of the £150m budget for the first year of the scheme, vouchers worth £33.9m have been issued

Data released by Ofgem shows a slow pace on the rollout of the government‘s flagship scheme to decarbonise home heating.

Homeowners can apply to Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS) to receive vouchers of up to £6,000 for installing air source and ground source heat pumps.

However, the latest Ofgem statistics suggest the scheme has only spent nearly 13% of its total £150 million budget.

More specifically, the energy regulator estimates that the total value of the issued BUS vouchers is £33,958,000, with the total value of grants paid £20,553,000.

This means that the remaining budget for the first year of the scheme, which ends on 31st March 2023, is £116 million.
