Energy bill discount scheme prompts spike in fuel poverty donations

More than £88,000 was donated in October alone to a fuel charity

The public is donating more to charities protecting struggling households amid the energy crisis.

A fuel charity, the Fuel Bank Foundation has said it has received more than £250,000 in public donations since April.

In total, the charity has received nearly 2,000 donations, with more than £88,000 donated in October alone.

Before the energy crisis, the charity received a handful of public donations.

Matthew Cole, Head of Fuel Bank Foundation, said: “We are extremely grateful to those who have felt compelled to help those less fortunate than themselves by donating to the Fuel Bank.

“As a charity, we receive most of our funding from central and local government, energy companies and other industry organisations, with a very small proportion coming from public donations.”
