Scotland generated 35.3TWh of renewable electricity in 2022, a 28.1% increase from 2021 and 9.8% from 2020, surpassing previous records.
This is equivalent to powering all Scottish households for over three years. Renewable electricity generation in the fourth quarter rose by 14%, the most in Scotland’s history.
Renewable electricity capacity grew from 13.6GW to 13.8GW between September and December 2022, official data shows.
Scotland’s net electricity exports increased 17% to 18.7TWh in 2022, with an estimated wholesale market value of £4 billion.
Wind energy contributed the majority of Scotland’s renewable electricity generation in 2022, with 27.5TWh, 5.8TWh from offshore wind and 21.8TWh from onshore wind.
