Decarbonise to save your life?

Cold homes are putting loved ones in peril

Could a decarbonised home prolong your life?

Analysis conducted by the Association for Decentralised Energy’s (ADE) Research team, on behalf of WWF-UK and ScottishPower, finds that addressing indoor air quality through improved insulation and other energy efficiency measures – could be vital for improving health.

The study says 30% of excess winter deaths are linked to cold homes.

After conducting expert interviews and in-depth case study analysis, they found home decarbonisation measures – which result in warmer homes – have substantial impacts on cardiovascular and respiratory health.

This shows that socio-economic benefits of home decarbonisation extend far beyond getting your home to net zero.

In particular these measures benefit the health of school children, the elderly and other vulnerable populations.

Recommendations outlined within the report call for more strategic planning from the Government .

Immediate actions included removal of legacy policy costs from consumer bills, suggesting they are publicly funded instead.
