Forget the noise, energy professionals still believe in the green agenda says Centrica.
Research on trends and attitudes to Labour’s clean energy pledge by Centrica Business Solutions, found a quarter have confidence in the government’s decarbonisation plans. And 57% say policy levers like creating Great British Energy and the National Wealth Fund, will go a long way to support their net zero goals.
However, one third (32%) believe the government could do more to accelerate their carbon reduction plans, including investing in technology and innovation to make decarbonisation more accessible (63%) – and increased spending on national infrastructure – to support renewable energy generation (56%).
Net zero goals
Having a plan to get to net zero is common with 85% setting targets to decarbonise their operations. But there are issues holding them back including, rising energy costs (26%), budget restrictions (15%) and supply chain challenges (11%). These remain key barriers.
Jean-Yves Cherruault, Head of Business Development, Business to Business said: “The energy transition has remained a key priority for the new government and it’s encouraging to see that businesses are in support of the green agenda and the plans for how energy is generated, stored and supplied in the UK.
“Businesses remain central to the UK’s energy transition and must continue to find the right balance between cutting carbon and managing costs.”
The survey questioned 250 energy managers, within businesses of 500+ employees with more than £2m turnover, in November 2024.
