With our desperate skills gap – 200 pupils in Oxfordshire have been finding out what a career in STEM is like.
A careers event at Jesus and Trinity Colleges, Oxford run by SSEN, SmartSTEMs and the University of Oxford, let young minds explore jobs in STEM subjects (science, technology, engineering and mathematics).
Students aged 10-14 took part in interactive workshops designed to showcase the real-world impact of STEM careers.
Experts from leading organisations, including Siemens Energy, UK Atomic Energy Authority and Hitachi, introduced pupils to emerging technologies and the skills needed to work in cutting-edge industries.
Through hands-on activities, they learned about everything from sustainable power generation to robotics, engineering and environmental science.
The event also gave pupils a glimpse into the growing demand for STEM professionals.
With industries evolving rapidly, the need for engineers, scientists and digital specialists is greater than ever.
By engaging directly with professionals and seeing STEM in action, students gained a clearer understanding of how their education can lead to exciting careers which will be needed to plug the UK’s skills gap.
