Residents in Copenhagen pay by far the highest electricity bills in Europe.

New monthly figures show people in the Danish city pay as much as €30.28 per kilowatt hour (kWh), or £23.71.

In Belgrade by comparison, residents pay the least for electricity at €6.02, which is £4.71 per kWh.

European energy bills can vary as much as 149% depending on where you live in Europe. Overall Southern and Eastern European countries pay more than the rest.

London is not far off, still making the top ten most expensive, with spending hitting €20.53 (£16.08) per kWh. The average cost is currently at €18.04 (£14.12) per kWh.

When it comes to gas the Swedish pay the most, with Stockholm paying over double the average gas rate, this is said to be due to its small market with only 33,000 gas customers in the whole of Sweden.

Not including the Swedes, Copenhagen becomes the most expensive city for gas. With all that said, the analysis shows energy prices have remained stable for November.

The data covers 23 European countries and is published monthly by VaasaETT, a research company which works with two European energy market authorities to track energy prices in those countries.
