Fourteen community projects have been awarded grants totalling £20,000 from an offshore wind farm fund.

It is part of DONG Energy’s community benefit fund associated with its Burbo Bank Extension project, located off the coast of Wirral.

Once completed, the wind farm will have a total capacity of 258MW, enough to provide power for more than 180,000 homes.

Around £225,000 will be made available from community projects every year for the expected 25-year lifetime of the wind farm.

Phil Ford, DONG Energy’s Senior Stakeholder Advisor, said: “The first round of the fund received a fantastic response from the local community and we are delighted that the fund is able to now start supporting such worthy causes.”
