Will lab grown treat be a dog’s dinner?

World’s first cultivated meat dog treat goes on sale at Pets at Home

Meatly, a UK cultivated meat pioneer, has launched the world’s first pet food containing lab-grown meat.

In partnership with plant-based brand THE PACK, “Chick Bites” dog treats are now available at Pets at Home in Brentford, London.

The bites blend “Meatly Chicken with plant-based ingredients”, offering a sustainable and cruelty-free alternative.

Pets at Home is the first retailer globally to stock cultivated meat pet food.

Meatly uses a single cell sample from one chicken egg to produce endless meat for pets without harming animals.

Owen Ensor, Founding CEO of Meatly, said: “We’re incredibly excited to introduce cultivated meat to the pet world. Just two years ago this felt like a moon shot. Today we take off. It’s a giant leap forward – toward a significant market for meat which is healthy, sustainable and kind to our planet and other animals.”

Anja Madsen, Chief Operating Officer, Pets at Home said: “At Pets at Home, we’re guided by our purpose to create a better world for pets and the people who love them, and that includes looking after our planet.

“This innovation has the potential to significantly reduce the environmental impact of pet food and will be a game-changer for the industry.”
