Swedish company Vattenhall has signed a two-year deal to supply hydropower to a data centre in Boden, North Sweden.

The agreement covers a potential supply of 40MW – 50MW of the renewable source to Hydro66.

A data centre is a space for companies to keep and operate most of their ICT infrastructure.

Matts Wesslén, Sales Manager at Vattenfall, said: “We are very happy to welcome Hydro66 as a new customer and to announce another strong data centre supply partnership, which is an important growth area for Vattenfall in the Nordic region.”

Vattenfall also supplies hydropower to one of Facebook’s Swedish data centres.

A recent report said the global market for green data centres is forecast to reach $221.49 billion (£140bn) by 2022.
