The UK gas system is slightly undersupplied.

That’s because demand has picked up as temperatures are cooler, according to npower’s Daily Market Report.

Domestic demand is around 17mcm higher today and the linepack is 5mcm short.

Tim Carter from the Optimisation Desk said: “Rough storage withdrawals are back up in line with pre-outage levels today but Langeled nominations from Norway have dropped a touch.”

On the power system, the peak margin is a bit tighter today with wind generating 6GW.

Mr Carter added: “Current actuals are falling short of expectation which may increase pressure on CCGTs this afternoon.”

Brent oil is currently trading at $36.5/bbl (£24.8/bbl) as data released yesterday from the American Petroleum Industry suggest US stockpiles rose by nearly 10 million barrels last week.
