The UK gas system is undersupplied, according to npower’s daily market report.

The linepack is forecast to close 8.5mcm short as demand is expected to be 7mcm above average despite temperatures being higher than normal for this time of the year.

Flows from the Langeled pipeline are at 74mcm.

Samuel Hill from the Optimisation Desk said: “There are some storage withdrawal nominations, with Rough currently at just over 9mcm. With no scheduled tankers due to dock in the UK, send-out through South Hook is minimal. We have one unplanned gas outage at Gullfaks due to corrective maintenance, providing a within-day decrease of 5mcm.”

On the power system, the peak margin is expected to reach 9GW.

Wind is generating around 1.5GW, CCGT is providing 25GW and coal 7GW.

Mr Hill added: “Both the French and Dutch interconnectors are exporting this morning, adding tightness in the system, with colder temperatures on the continent.”

Oil prices are currently trading at $57/bbl (£45.03/bbl).

The pound is valued at €1.19.
