The government will reportedly reach a compromise with a group of MPs on the future of the onshore wind ban.

A group of Tory backbenchers, led by former Cabinet minister Simon Clarke have called for an amendment in the Levelling Up Bill that could see rules for England’s new onshore wind projects be relaxed.

According to The Telegraph, the Prime Minister is set to back down on onshore wind farms after 35 Tories, including Boris Johnson and Liz Truss, supported a bid to lift the ban.

Yesterday, asked about the government’s current position on this issue, Housing Secretary Michael Gove said: “We are going to have a conversation with people who are passionate about our environment and making sure we have the right wind power in the right places.

“I know that those conversations are going on at the moment. All of us are clear that wind power renewables is an important part of our drive toward net zero. But we also need to take account of community consent.”
