Welsh Government data shows 38,000 households are living in ‘severe fuel poverty’
A think tank has called for more support for low income families
The former MP for Don Valley, who will take on the new role from 31st January 2022 for three years, represented a former mining constituency with areas of acute deprivation and a growing low income private rented sector
The Area Based Scheme has helped deliver energy efficiency improvements to more than 100,000 homes since the programme launched in 2013, generating savings worth more than £900m on energy bills
It includes a plan to increase help for vulnerable energy consumers with fuel bills and green upgrades to their homes, with low income families expected to save as much as £500
The Fuel Bank Foundation is receiving the funding to extend its work, which includes providing same-day support to top up prepayment meters for those at risk of disconnection
The support provided will include energy efficiency advice, referrals to the Warm Home Discount Scheme, supplier switching advice as well as benefits checks
Ofgem has launched a call for evidence until 10th December 2018
BEIS is also inviting suggestions to improve the reliability and accuracy of Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs)
It will support energy-saving upgrades in more than one million homes over the next three and half years
