“Investment in efficiency is what will help keep energy bills flat”

Paula Glover, President of the Alliance to Save Energy has spoken to ELN about how the policies being debated by Congress will impact Americans’ electricity bills

A national war effort on energy efficiency is needed to help countries tackle many of the implications of the current energy crisis.

That’s the suggestion from Paula Glover, President of the Alliance to Save Energy, who spoke to ELN about how the US and other countries can provide reliable and resilient energy to all, ensuring the energy transition doesn’t leave anyone behind: “We see now the energy demand continues to increase.

“We also have to make the shift to a cleaner source of energy because we do have climate change and we do need to be able to deal with this issue. But what I believe is that investment in efficiency is what’s going to help keep people’s bills flat and hopefully decrease them.”

The new Congress has begun debating the future of energy policy for the nation (including the implementation of the Inflation Reduction Act), tackling climate change and securing affordable energy bills.

Ms Glover, who had previously served as President and Chief Executive Officer of the American Association of Blacks in Energy, a non-profit focused on making the transition to net zero equitable for minority communities, also spoke about the inequalities and the social disparities that were revealed during the pandemic and intensified through the energy crisis.

She added: “The magnitude of issues like energy poverty, and energy insecurity is much larger than any of us really know.

Energy efficiency can get us to the point where we can resolve most of them. It is an important tool. As we are making this transition to net zero an investment in efficiency will allow us to keep bills low.”
