Majority of public call for more energy bill support

Britons demand more support to insulate homes and save energy, with a whopping 84% backing the cause, new survey suggests

Ahead of the Spring Statement on Wednesday, the public is calling for more support from the government to tackle the energy crisis and help vulnerable people.

A new online poll from the campaign group Warm This Winter, commissioned by YouGov, shows that 81% of Britons believe that more financial support should be given to vulnerable people for their energy bills, while 84% want more support to insulate their homes and save energy.

The survey of 2,000 people also found that 85% of respondents agreed that developing more homegrown renewable energy would improve the UK’s energy security.

The Warm This Winter coalition of 40 charities is calling on MPs to sign a pledge to keep everyone warm every winter and support energy sector reform.

The pledge has already received cross-party support from MPs, including former Energy Minister Chris Skidmore, Shadow Minister for Climate Change and Net Zero Dr Alan Whitehead, Wera Hobhouse and former leader of the Green Party Caroline Lucas.

ELN has approached the Treasury and the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero for comment.
