The number of Renewables Obligation Certificates (ROCs) issued during the first quarter of the year increased by 6%.

They rose from more than 23 million in the first quarter last year to 24.4 million in 2016.

Generation picked up by 4% to 18,713GW, new figures from DECC reveal.

ROCs are issued to operators of accredited renewable energy generating stations.

DECC’s report states ROCs issued to generators picked up by 23% in February compared to the same month last year.

They accounted for more than 8.1 million.

Overall generation rose by 20% from 5,202GW to 6,230GW during the same period.

Furthermore, the number of ROCs rose by 13% in the 2014/15 financial year to more than 71.4 million.

That’s an increase of 12% in generation, it adds.
