A proposed offshore wind farm in the UK has announced MHI Vestas as its preferred turbine supplier.

Statkraft and innogy, which will develop the Triton Knoll facility on the east coast as a joint venture, plan to use 90 of MHI Vestas’ latest turbines to generate a total 860MW power at the installation.

Each turbine blade will be 80-metres long, meaning they can operate more efficiently than previous, smaller models.

The project was awarded a Contract for Difference (CfD) in the latest round of government auctions earlier this month and is expected to trigger a capital expenditure investment of around £2 billion into UK energy infrastructure.

Construction of the offshore wind farm is planned to start in 2020.
