Energy vouchers: London and Scotland have the lowest take-up

Nearly half of the energy vouchers issued in October and November for prepayment customers in London were redeemed, according to government data

London, Scotland and the North East are lagging behind with the redemption of energy vouchers.

People who use traditional prepayment meters are sent monthly vouchers by their suppliers as part of the government’s Energy Bills Support Scheme.

Energy companies have already contacted customers in advance of the scheme launching in October.

New government data shows that almost 1.42 million vouchers for the cost of living support for prepayment energy customers issued in October and November 2022 have not yet been redeemed.

Almost 51% of energy vouchers issued for prepayment meter customers in London have been redeemed for October and November 2022 before the expiry date, the report suggests.

Nearly 754,040 vouchers were issued in October and November 2022 for London customers – of these 388,450 were redeemed.

A third of vouchers for homes with traditional prepayment meters in Scotland and South East England hadn’t been cashed-in either.

In Scotland, there were 579,830 vouchers issued in October and November, with 377,690 being redeemed.
