Majority of EU customers cut back on energy use amidst price hikes

Almost half of the consumers are concerned about paying their bills, according to a survey conducted by the European Commission

Almost half of the consumers (48%) in Europe are concerned about paying their bills, with 71% taking measures to reduce their home energy consumption.

That’s according to the European Commission which has released the findings of its 2023 Consumer Conditions Scoreboard survey.

Responding to energy price increases, over half of the consumers surveyed have adjusted their habits, while 43% of consumers stated that environmental concerns do not influence their purchasing decisions, despite believing they should contribute more to tackling climate change.

The reliability of environmental claims has also seen a decline, possibly due to increased awareness about greenwashing.
