‘Power Up Britain’ plan unleashed: Heat pump grant scheme gets extension

The Boiler Upgrade Scheme will continue to offer households £5,000 to replace their gas boilers with heat pumps

The government‘s much-anticipated ‘Powering Up Britain‘ plan has been revealed today.

Energy Security Grant Shapps has announced a range of measures aimed at boosting the country’s green credentials.

Notably, the government has updated its measures to include a three-year extension to 2028 for the Boiler Upgrade Scheme, a programme offering households £5,000 to replace their gas boilers with heat pumps.

The extensive plan spans a whopping 1,000 pages and covers everything from energy efficiency in homes to large-scale infrastructure projects.

Key features of the plan include the rebranding of the ECO+ scheme to the Great British Insulation Scheme, which aims to insulate 300,000 of the UK’s poorest-performing homes.

The government has also confirmed £240 million in funding for green hydrogen projects and the launch of Great British Nuclear to support the growth of the UK’s nuclear industry.
