Nearly 8% of government estate powered by renewable energy tariffs

Over half of the government estate’s electricity volume is being supplied by “zero carbon (nuclear)” tariffs

Almost 8.23% of the government estate’s electricity volume, encompassing both Central Government and Arm’s-length bodies, is derived from renewable or renewable blend tariffs.

In response to a query posed by Kerry McCarthy, Shadow Minister for Climate Change, Alex Burghart MP for Brentwood and Ongar, who currently holds the government post of Parliamentary Secretary (Cabinet Office), revealed information about the energy sources powering the government estate.

According to Burghart’s response, nearly 52.2% of the government estate’s electricity volume is being supplied through “zero carbon (nuclear)” tariffs.

Looking ahead, Mr Burghart has confirmed that the Crown Commercial Service is actively working on establishing direct contracts with renewable power generators.

Their objective is to further increase the proportion of renewable power sourced for the government estate’s energy demand.
