The cost of technology must fall in order for the UK’s carbon emissions to be reduced, according to the Renewable UK.

According to the trade body, this can be achieved by significantly ramping up investment in renewable energy through capital support from private investors, utility companies and government.

However, Louise Jennings, spokesperson for Renewable UK, was confident that the UK would reach its 2020 target to source 15% of energy from renewables.

“As an industry we are confident that the target can be met given the huge number of renewable energy projects we have in the pipeline – some 49GW in the offshore wind industry alone,” she said.

“However, if we are to deliver on this we must ensure there is a clear policy framework in place to allow the necessary flow of investment into the sector.”
