Businesses have backed Chancellor George Osborne’s pitch to the international community about the importance of gas.

At the British Business Embassy summit in London today the Chancellor suggested gas could be the number one source for the nation.

Some of the international delegates from the world’s oil and gas sector who attended the summit agreed gas has a strong future.

Tony Ogbuigwe, Group Executive Director at the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation told ELN: “Gas is cleaner than the traditional fossil fuel. You can’t believe the demand for liquefied natural gas all over the world. It is clean energy, much cleaner than fuel and oil and I see a growing future for it.”

Andrew Gould, Non-Executive Director of BG Group also said gas has a much longer future than most people imagine. He told ELN: “The UK is very well placed in that it has multiple sources of gas… I wouldn’t argue that security of supply is a big issue for the UK.”

The Government hopes the summit will drum up investments for the UK energy sector and create thousands of jobs.
