A £35 million solar farm (pictured) in Leicestershire, believed to be the largest in the UK, has successfully been connected to the National Grid.
The 34MW project at a former World War II airfield, Wymeswold, in Leicestershire consists of 130,000 solar panels covering an area of 150 acres.
Jonathan Selwyn, Managing Director of Lark Energy, which built the farm said: “As the largest solar farm in the UK, the project has not been without its challenges, both technical and weather related. It is a testament to the teamwork of the various parties involved in its development and delivery that it was completed and connected on time.”
The firm claims the farm was built in less than eight weeks. The airfield is currently being used for a mixture of agricultural and leisure activities, including a driving experience operator and a kite club.
