Press speculation suggests EDF is considering selling its gas and coal power plants in the UK.

The energy firm declined to comment.

However reports claim Barclays bank has approached potential buyers on behalf of EDF to gauge their interest in possibly buying the facilities.

The French utility owns two coal plants – Cottam and West Burton A – and West Burton B gas power station in the UK.

It also plans to build two reactors at Hinkley Point in Somerset but hasn’t made a final investment decision yet.

However CEO Vincent de Rivaz insisted the project will go ahead, with plans to commission it in 2025.

Last year the UK Government announced all unabated coal-fired plants will be closed by 2025.
