IKEA has officially started construction of its new sustainable superstore in Greenwich.

The company’s first full-sized London store in 13 years will be kitted out with a range of low carbon technologies to help offset its carbon emissions.

These features will include solar panels, rainwater collection devices, a public rooftop garden and ground-source heat pumps.

ELN joined staff and local politicians at the official groundbreaking ceremony at the site, where we spoke to IKEA’s Sustainability Manager and the site’s future Store Manager.

The shop is expected to create up to 500 new job opportunities.
