Green Power hits record high in energy generation

Severn Trent Green Power has achieved a milestone by generating a record-breaking 302GWh of renewable energy within a span of 12 months

Severn Trent Green Power (STGP), a company focused on renewable energy and organic waste recycling, has announced a milestone, producing a total of 302GWh of renewable energy over the course of 12 months.

This amount of energy generated could power over 111,000 homes, equivalent to the combined households of Oxford and Cambridge.

Anaerobic digestion, the process by which gas emitted from food waste is captured and used for electricity generation or injected into the gas grid, forms the core of STGP’s operations.

The company treated over 500,000 tonnes of food waste in 2023/24, preventing approximately 450,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide from entering the atmosphere compared to landfill disposal.

Christer Stoyell, Managing Director, Severn Trent Green Power said: “We are committed to further expansion and innovation, solidifying our role as a force in the UK’s renewable energy landscape.

“By further unlocking the potential of organic waste, and expanding our portfolio of other renewable energy sources, we can help create a greener future for generations to come.”
