The Asian Development Bank (ADB) is helping Tonga build up its resilience to natural disasters.

It aims to promote environmental sustainability, disaster risk management and climate change adaptation in the country.

Tonga is one of the most vulnerable nations in the Pacific to climate change, stated ADB.

Around 89% of the 102,000 population receives electricity generated mainly from diesel fuel.

The ADB is also helping the country achieve its target of generating half of its electricity from renewable sources by 2020.
