Almost 2,000 homes in Suffolk are being offered free rooftop solar panels.

Havebury Housing Partnership has awarded a contract to renewables firm Saving Energy to install the solar arrays.

It is urging tenants to take up the offer for the project, which it claims will help them save up to 50% on their electricity bills.

The news follows the government’s announcement to reduce support for solar projects.

Sam Fulker, Managing Director at Saving Energy said: “The solar installation will see Havebury’s tenants significantly reduce their energy bills and, as such, futureproof the property against rising energy costs.”

Macquarie Bank is providing the funding for the solar programme.
