DECC has revealed the first six projects that have been awarded £19.5 million in total as part of the Green Deal Communities scheme.

The Government launched the “street-by-street” initiative last July to encourage the take-up of the Green Deal scheme and local authorities were asked to identify target streets and areas in their regions that could most benefit from energy efficiency measures.

More than 7,000 households in Cambridgeshire, Ashfield, Suffolk, Peterborough, Bracknell Forest and six north London boroughs led by Haringey will benefit from retrofit programmes, DECC said today.

The proposals were judged on a number of factors including the number and total value of Green Deal plans that will be delivered, their creativity in offering local incentives to drive demand and their sustainability in the long term.
