The gas system is undersupplied at 26mcm short, according to npower’s daily market report.

The consumption forecast is close to 140mcm and it is expected to rise tomorrow.

This is due to temperatures being three degrees below seasonal normal.

Flows from Langeled are at 22mcm. The Interconnector flows to the continent are up at around 33mcm.

Optimisation desk manager at npower Ben Spry said: “With the short gas system we can expect storage facilities withdrawal to increase from their actual nominations of 6mcm to help the system.

“It will be a key driver on the prompt today.”

The power market is comfortable with the peak margin at 15.6GW.

Solar power is expected to generate 4.2GW today and wind generation is providing almost 3.5GW to the grid.

Gas remains the dominant fuel source with 31% of the stack.

Brent contracts are trading at $65.5 a barrel (£42/Bbl).
