Lightsource Renewable Energy has announced plans to invest £25 million in solar projects in Northern Ireland.

The cash will be used to fully fund solar installations on around 6,000 homes in the next six months.

Householders will be able to buy energy from Lightsource at a cheaper rate, with the company claiming bills could be reduced by at least 20%.

Long term maintenance of the solar systems will also be provided to customers.

CEO Nick Boyle said: “We are entering into a new world of electricity supply where homeowners and businesses can actually have a choice in how and where their energy comes from. This is great news for consumers, who can not only save money but can also make decisions that are good for the environment. Solar power is at the forefront of this paradigm shift and Lightsource is the clear leader in facilitating this choice.”

Lightsource also invested in and developed Europe’s largest floating solar array in Greater London and connected a large-scale solar farm to Belfast International Airport.
