A solar power plant that would be the UK’s biggest is being planned for Kent.

Developers Hive Energy and Wirsol Energy expect to install solar panels across 890 acres – equivalent to more than 400 football pitches.

They would generate enough electricity to power aorund 110,000 households.

Battery storage could also be incorporated to provide balancing services to the power grid.

Hugh Brennan, Managing Director at Hive Energy said: “The Cleve Solar Park is a pioneering scheme that aims to optimise the technological developments in solar energy.

“Our ambition is to deliver the first non-subsidised renewables project of this scale, delivering low cost, clean, home-grown energy to power UK households.”

The project is planned to become fully operational in 2020.
