Businesses offered £20m for sustainable agriculture technologies

The competition will open on 20th August 2018

Businesses in the UK are being invited to apply for a share of up to £20 million for technologies that can help boost efficiency and sustainability in the agricultural industry.

The transforming food production challenge is part of a wider £90 million government investment to make it easier for farmers and agricultural businesses to embrace technology and innovation.

The competition aims to bring together the agri-food sector with expertise in real-time robotics sensing, data, AI and earth observation. Projects should focus on developing highly efficient and high value production systems that maximise productivity and improve environmental performance.

It could include combining digital technologies and engineering solutions with biological, environment or social science to improve productivity, developing technologies and systems that connect farms and supply chains and transferring an innovative technology from another sector into agriculture.

Total costs can be up to £2 million for productivity solutions and up to £5 million for supply chain projects. They must start by April 2019 and can last up to 36 months.

The competition will open on 20th August and the deadline for applications is 24th October 2018.
