There is a massive opportunity for innovative digital technologies to improve energy customers’ experiences.

That’s according to the UK’s Digital Minister, Matt Hancock, who spoke to ELN at the Conservative Party Conference about the benefits of inventions such as the Internet of Things, smart sensors and dynamic pricing.

He said the range of options, none of which were available a decade ago, mean energy use can be optimised and streamlined, both in domestic and business scenarios.

Mr Hancock said as well as making energy generation cleaner, it was also important to reduce consumption wherever possible.

Speaking to ELN, the Digital Minister said: “There are real consumer facing benefits to the use of digital in energy and then there’s the big stuff, you know, at the wholesale end and the need to ensure that that’s as efficient as possible and as secure as possible.

“Right across energy, the impact of digital disruption has only just got going.”

Digital energy technologies will be discussed at the Energy Live Expo on November 2nd in London. The last few free tickets are available for energy end users.
