Total is teaming up with Californian scientists at Amyris to develop renewable fuels. The French oil and gas firm is putting $105million into expanding its existing research partnership with the ex-Berkeley University biologists and work on a commercial range of renewable products such as fuels and chemicals made from sugar plants. John Melo, CEO of Amyris said the plans would mean consumers won’t have to “compromise” on performance “when choosing a renewable alternative to petroleum-based products.”
