Iran is loaning Pakistan 80,000 barrels of oil a day, it was reported yesterday.

The EU and USA have declared an oil embargo on Iran for continuing to develop its nuclear programme, which means it is unable to export as much oil as it wants to.

The loan could be seen as Tehran’s attempt to lessen the pressure it is under from these Western sanctions.

Meanwhile Pakistan has been struggling with power shortages, experiencing a series of related riots at the end of last year.
