The global technology sector has “a lot of work to do” to get its ICT sector green by 2050. That’s the suggestion from computer firm DELL’s top environmental strategist John Pflueger.

In a Q&A session run by the Climate Group on social media site Twitter, he told ELN: “[The] World will have a large middle class in 2050 – we have a lot of work to do”.

The global population is forecast to be nine billion by 2050, while some figures say the world’s middle class grows by 70 million every year.

Mr Pflueger suggested the “cloud” – the remotely accessed internet network – was the most recent development in the ICT’s ‘clean revolution’.

While he couldn’t predict where the next big green ICT leap will be after the cloud, he said “it is out there somewhere – just waiting to launch”.
