The UK Government has launched a new competition worth £100,000 aimed at boosting energy efficiency training in the non-domestic sector.

Training providers can apply for a share of the fund to help expand the range of energy efficiency programmes already on offer for people involved in energy management on a day-to-day basis. They will be judged on a range of criteria including value for money, deliverability and the overall fit with DECC’s strategic priorities.

A DECC spokesperson said: “We need to improve the energy efficiency of buildings across the UK to help save money on bills and cut emissions too but we need people with the know-how on the ground to make this happen. This £100,000 investment will help increase the training options available and provide people with the skills they need in this growing sector.”

Proposals must be submitted online by 4 January. The news comes ahead of the full launch of the Government’s Green Deal scheme next month, which will help homes and businesses improve their homes using energy efficient measures.

Last month the UK’s Green Investment Bank (GIB) also made a £50 million commitment for energy efficiency projects to help firms cut energy bills.
