A series of explosions hit a gas plant in Florida, USA late last night (03:00 GMT) injuring at least seven workers according to reports.

Footage shows thick clouds of black smoke and a fire raging in the darkness as police and fire brigades try to contain it.

It sounded like “bombs were going off” according to Disa Pearce, who lives near to the plant.

In a comment posted on a video about the explosion on Youtube, Ms Pearce wrote: “Im about 4 miles from the plant and I thought bombs were going off! The sky was bright orange and the explosions lasted a long time! Very scary!!!”

Half the plant’s workers were originally thought to be missing after flames engulfed the propane tank exchange station.

Officials now say there were no deaths after the explosion at the Blue Rhino-owned plant in Florida’s city of Tavares, which calls itself America’s seaplane city.

John Herrell of the Lake County Sheriff’s Office told AP: “Management is comfortable saying all of those they knew were there tonight have been accounted for.”
