German supermarkets whizz towards sustainable shopping with EV chargers

EV infrastructure firm Fastned is to build chargers at four REWE Region Mitte stores in Frankfurt

Electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure firm Fastned has partnered with REWE Region Mitte to install and operate fast chargers at four supermarkets in Frankfurt.

The project aims to test the interest of EV drivers in rapid-charging their vehicle while shopping for groceries, with the intention to expand the partnership to additional locations if there is sufficient demand.

Both companies have sustainable credentials – REWE tries to use wood as a construction material in its stores and new charging stations wherever possible, while Fastned sources 100% of its electricity sustainably and locally.

Michiel Langezaal, CEO of Fastned, said: “We are excited by this partnership with REWE because they have an extensive network of suitable locations and sustainability is part of their mission.

“We are confident that we can provide a valuable service to customers of REWE and grow the number of fast charging stations in the future.”
