Homeowners must not be left to foot the bill for changes to water policy. This is the call from the Consumer Council for Water, which is concerned about plans to increase competition in the water sector.
The Water White Paper today proposes to boost competition by helping more players enter the supply market. This move is focused on giving businesses better choice of water supplier.
But CC Water says it wants assurance from Government that water companies offering lower prices to business customers won’t subsidise this through domestic customers who won’t be able to choose their supplier.
Tony Smith, CC Water’s chief executive said: “We need to make sure that the introduction of further competition for business customers gives them the benefits they seek, whilst not detrimentally affecting those who cannot change water supplier.”
He added: “Over the next few weeks we will be examining the White Paper in detail to understand how government propose to address these issues of genuine customer concern.”
