Solar power provided 8.4% of Italy’s total electricity demand last month.
In a new report, the nation’s grid operator Terna SpA, revealed energy generated from solar in August grew by 49.2% from 1,501 GWh in the same month last year to 2,240 GWh this year.
The total demand of 26.7 billion kWh for August was met by 92.8% of national production and the remainder exchanged with foreign countries.
The Italian Government introduced a Feed-in-Tariff for solar projects last month with a subsidy budget of €700 million (£559.4 million). However, reports claim it could to close this year as the budget is expected to hit its capital, after which no further incentives will be given for solar projects.
